Gateway Inc. is closing its 188 retail stores and laying off 2,500 employees as the shakeout of the acquisition of eMachines Inc. continues.

A wise move and Teds part. The stores never took and were a huge money sink. They always felt they would be able address the needs of that 25% of the computer purchasing public that need their hands held when buying a computer. The internet changed that by making direct or "Remote buying" a standard biz operation. Why would a cyber company need a bricks and mortar store.
