I have gone through more laptops over the last few years than I care to even think about and now that I just dropped and smashed the LCD screen on my current machine I started to think about a replacement.
I thought deep down when I really NEED a laptop rather than when I actually use it. At the moment I use it inthe office, on the train, on planes, give presentations on it in meetings and use it in the car in service stations. I started tothink a little harder and came to the conclusion that I don't NEED the power of a laptop / desktop replacement.
Whilst I am in the office a desktop truly WILL do, and whilst I am away from the office I only really want the ability of using email, a web browser, word processor, spreadsheet and occasionaly an SSH client and tools like instant messenger would be nice.
Because of this and the fact that my biggest bug bear is that laptops consume power like there is no tomorrow I started to think back (with very fond thoughts) to my old Psion 5.
What I REALLY NEED is a Psion Series 7 or NetBook with a ethernet card thown in. Colour screen, proper keyboard, all the software I need is available, I can connect it to my mobile phone via IRDA, I have spare compact flash 802.11b card lying about and most of all the battery life should last me a whole working day!
My problem is that they aren't made anymore, you can only get a Netbook Pro with PocketPC which isn't what I am after.
So with all the combined wisdom available here does anyone have a Series 7 or even better a netbook for sale or do you know where I can get my grubby little hands on one to take me to travelling, laptop free, heaven?
