The original version of this - which I saw a couple of years ago - had an "In tribute to Douglas Adams" logo at the bottom of the page.
But nonetheless a very funny adaptation (must be a Brit thing, lawman).

Gah, I've always disliked that one. Infact, I dislike all error messages like that. 404 pages should include links to the prominent parts of the page. A really good one would find the term that they were looking for, and try to offer a suggestion of what the person might have tried to get to. But I don't think there's many sites with that... if any.

Lama, you are of course correct, but the site that contained the original is somewhat humorous in content, it being the site of a student group at the university of Twente in the Netherlands.
Here [scintilla.utwente.nl], for example, you can find statistics on the amount of coffee being consumed by members of the group :-)
