Remember 8 glasses of water a day? You can have beer, too!

Just in time for PubCon...

The nutrition, pediatrics and geriatrics experts concluded the average North American woman requires about 2.7 litres of fluid a day and men need 3.7 litres.

The fluid doesn't all have to come in form of water. Milk, juice and soup all add up, and even a cold beer or caffeinated coffee count.

The belief that beer or coffee draw fluid from the body is mostly a myth, according to University of Alberta physiology Prof. Susan Jacobs-Kaufman.

This statement is puzzling me, deeply. Which part of the belief is not a myth?

Wow, news to me. Was this sponsored by Budweiser or something? ;)
Then why do we get headaches from alcohol?

Just do a search on the effects of alcohol and every article mentions dehydration. I'm sure that if it was just a myth, we'd know by now.

Just believe already. ;)

;-))

I did a quick search and followed up quoted "studies" for and against caffiene causing increased dehydration.

One saying yes was funded by a bottled water company!

One saying no was funded by a coffee company!

So I drink my eight glasses of water, my two pots of coffee, my six pack of cola, and my pitcher of beer and worry not ... except that the bathroom is near and unoccupied.

i did my own experiment last night:

hypotheseis:
replenishing fluids while drinking alcohol will cut down the effects of dehydration due to alcohol.

1-2 beers per hour for 5 hours.
2 oz whiskey
no other liquids

woke up this morning feeling very dehydrated--tongue felt like sandpaper--couldn't focus on WebmasterWorld forum.

tonight i shall try the same experiment, but i will drink as much water as i do beer. i suspect i will not be as dehydrated tomorrow in the a.m.

long live science

lol!

I do a similar experiment most weekends but with wine and vodka.

replenishing fluids while drinking alcohol will cut down the effects of dehydration due to alcohol.

I would imagine it will also cut down on the effects of the alcohol itself? I predict you will also be tired on account of extra time spent in the toilet during the night.

tonight i shall try the same experiment, but i will drink as much water as i do beer.

I await your results with interest.

Helen.
