Not sure why you dont want to use the XP messenger but this article might help you out. [support.microsoft.com...]
The functionality on the xp version is not the same as the MSN version which is why i tried to upgrade. I followed the upgrade route for the windows messenger [messenger.msn.com...]
Which takes you up to version 4.7.2009. This version resembles the much older version of MSN messenger. Whereas my current MSN version is 6.1.0207.
Do you know if there is a version of windows messenger out there with the same functionality as the msn one?
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction earlier,
James

As far as I can tell the latest version of windows messenger is pretty similar to msn messenger. I use msn at work and windows at home and the features are pretty much the same, they both have all the major ones anyway(with the exception of remote desktop and other xp features).
