dead keyboard

what have you done with the dead keyboards and other hardware?

The follow up question after the recent thread on the spilling stuff in keyboards is what have you done with the dead keyboard (or other hardware)?

I will start:

A few years back we where heading back to the airport after a very long full week system startup and acceptance test. While the other guy filled the tank I decided to performed a stress test on a dead keyboard. I caught the cord in the trunk and let it follow us. It lasted for over 5 miles on the highway before the cord failed. Not wanting to litter, we did go back and pick up the keyboard. Very minor damage - slight wear down on the corner of a few keycaps.

The best part of this stress test was the reaction of other people on the road. At a stop light we saw a lady yelling at the guy with her to get out and tell us about the keyboard. Nice waving contest with people trying to warn us on the highway.

Who else has had fun with dead hardware?

Took a non-funtioning keyboard and a burned out monitor to a gun range and shot them up. That was fun.. :-)

Take keyboard, old motherboard, other stuff. Add small boy with a hammer and other assorted tools. Observe. ;)

I'm saving them to make an office chair out of them (at least the frame - need a good cushion) - up to 13 so far...

Of course, the center piece of the back will have to feature the trs-80, sinclair, odyssey, and the hayes 2400 buad modem (ok - I'm a packrat).

Among a lot of posters of LotR, there is a 8086 motherboard in a wall of my bedroom. It's very nice ;)
And what about missburnt CDs? Use water and patience to get them totally transparent, hang them with a fine thread near your light or window and let them move around the thread. You will have nice color glitterings everywhere!
About keyboards... I have one that soon will be in the opposite wall than the motherboard ;)

I'm ashamed to say I actually have a proper use for one of my defunct keyboards. I have a PC dedicated to acting as a small FTP server for my own use, and the PC has an old bios that refuses to boot without one plugged in.

But that doesn't make them transparent in my experience (yes, I have done it, I was curious -- about much the same time that I discovered wagon wheels will melt plastic), it just makes them all bubbly and weird.
