create world-changing applications

Yaaaaaaaaawn!

Sorry. Sometimes I just cannot control my face when journalists document the depth of their understanding of the true nature of the world.

Foo Camp participants roughed it in tents, but they still had wireless Internet access.

Now that is my kind of camping ;)

I dunno, a proposal to eliminate spam certainly qualifies as a world-changing applications in my books!

Different people have different books.

In my books the world has not changed in the time that is covered by my personal memory although my own perception of the world may have changed slightly over the years in some secondary aspects.

Since we're in Foo, huddled around a camp fire, I guess I'll take the liberty to respond to troels nybo nielsen.

Since our perception changes, how can we judge whether or not the world is indeed changing? Can we tell whether a tree grows if we can not tell by what proportions our measuring tape grew?

Foo was more than fun -- it was important

Always thought this forum was the most important one on WebmasterWorld :).

Oh, and I think it's the first time I see BitTorrent mentionned in the mainstream press.

Wow, this is the geekiest camp I've ever seen!

I wonder if they had a secret mission to catch Osama Bin Laden through an XMLd crispy Googly, Nutchy algorithm ;)

you know that's not a bad business idea, setting up a wifi 'forrest' for all us internet addicts to go and camp in, hmmm, sitting on a rock next to little waterfall, martini in one hand - other hand clicking through the threads at WW :)

Sorry for being slow at answering, danieljean. I have had some difficulties with writing an answer that respected the terms of service [webmasterworld.com]. I will limit myself to a few general remarks about my own way of dealing with reality:

While every single one of my life's experiences may be said to have questionable validity, together they form a pattern that has been VERY stable for many (30+ ) years. Some of the experiences I have had in that time have cost me great pain and sorrow, but none of them have ever threatened the stability of that pattern.

I love camp fires! And I imagine that sometime in the future a group of people will be sitting around a fire and one of them will begin:

"Once upon a time there was something that they called 'The Internet'. Some people thought that it would change the world...."
