Google's not the only way to get good traffic

Geez...if you read some posts on this board, people live and die off of optimizing/spamming Google. And links are thought of as "backlinks" to add weight for PR or whatever.

What about old fashioned trading linking and swapping traffic or all the other things people do to get traffic?

In my time at WebmasterWorld I have seen thousands of posts complaining about Google giving websites too bad ratings and too few visitors.

I have also have seen hundreds of members stressing that there are other ways of getting visitors. There is nothing new under the sun.

Don't be surprised to see a moderator chiming in and locking this thread. We have forums specially dedicated to Google. And we have other forums specially dedicated to other ways of getting traffic.

I lived and nearly died off Google. (It felt like death anyway) I started down this road hearing the chant of the day: 'optimize for Google' So I did and went blissfully forward :-)

Now I'm spending my time trying to wrap my head around this whole business of running a site.

That was a great overview Brett... one that I will bookmark.

Nice page, Brett!

Regarding Google/Florida/over-optimizing sites, I love the idea that the internet is "designed to route around damage" which applies equally well to Google's corporate dreams and webmaster's overdependence on over-optimizing and game playing.
