I have an AVI file with sound but the visuals do not display. Anyone know what patch, if any, I need?

I have WinXP with Quicktime and media player.

Chances are you dont have the divx codec, it doesnt come with any updates from microsoft you have to get it seperately. Try going to cnet's download section and search for 'divx codec' then install the codec, it comes with a player but you dont need it so dont install it. Install just the codec.

Google for a tool called AVIcodec, it tells you which codecs you need to view an avi and which one are installed on your system.

You might even need Nemo codecs

Do you have the DivX and/or Div3 codec? you can download one of Kazaa, I think.
Have you tried Windows Media Player? It tells you automatically what codec you need.

Good luck! :)

There is a pack of codecs called the K-Lite codec pack that is excellent. You can find it by googling for "final builds site"

The QuickTime Alternative is also very good on there...

Why download it off of Kazaa if the DivX codec is free on the DivX site?

That's the equivalent of downloading a Linux distro off of Kazaa.

avi is not equal to avi.

What type of avi? "Reference" avi perhaps? If it's a Canopus Reference AVI for example you will be best off reopening the file in the program it was created (Storm Edit/Premiere Pro) and then re-exporting it to AVI (DV compression), AVI (standard) or MPEG2.

Thanks All

I am having no joy. I have a feeling this one is for the scrap heap - Not to worry though, The DVD is released soon.

I will bear these recommendations in mind next time it happens - as it invariably will.
