Just got a new ISP - comcast cable modem.

Their install software is horrible - changed my homepage, added bookmarks, changed my default email account, etc.

I've reconfigured everything the way I like it except I do not know how to reset the waiting icon in IE. I'm not even sure if that is the right name, but I am referring to the animated icon in the top left of IE that moves when requesting a webpage.

How does one reset to the windows default? (on xp)

Its actually top right ;)

My advice: Un-install IE and install it again, should work ;)

But then again, no point having to re-install just because of a stupid icon :)

There are plenty of freeware utilities to change the IE throbber. Here's the search I did on Google for it:

BTW, Figment88, you do not have to use their software to connect. Aso you noticed, it does change a whole bunch of defaults.

If you just plug your cable modem into a computer, the computer (provided it does not have a static ip) will get an ip from comcast's dhcp service, and you'll be connected.

Thanks all to your replies.

sidyadav - sorry if my dyslexia upset you. The icon really is absolutely annoying.

GaryK - thanks. wish I had known it was called Throbber

JordanAutomation - thanks. I wish ComCast would have told me that before I put their trojan bearing disk in my drive. I'm going to try to uninstall, but I bet some garbage will get left behind.

I just can't believe companies think this type of activity is acceptable. I see little difference to them changing my computer settings without telling me as if their technician while doing the wiring replaced my family photos with their corporate logo.

It's called branding. In theory they're giving you the very latest software available, in practice you stare at their dratted logo so much the mere idea of changing ISP is unthinkable ;)

Use notepad to save this snippet into UNBRAND.REG, right click on it and "merge"
Clears almost all known kinds of branding, not just the throbber, but any text.
