I'm looking for some software so that i can draw a 3d view of the interior of my house and all the floors and rooms. The idea is that i want to then overlay a full visual map of the current plumbing and electrical systems throughout, so that i can understand it better. The house is 118 years old and though its been gutted before, its really a mish-mash of idea's, and needs to be sorted out.

Any idea's for software would be appreciated!

Do you want it metric or imperial? Most of the software around seems to be American, and designed for American construction (i.e. all in inches, and using flimsy bits of wood, thin walls etc). It's hard to find anything suitable for the UK.

IMSI Turbocad and Floorplan 3D were free on some magazine covers recently (PC Format I think). In theory they can do the job, but trying to work around the Ameri-centric stuff can be very tedious, especially if you're going in for detail like electrics and plumbing.

Frankly paper and pencil is usually quicker, especially if it's just for your own use (i.e. not for planning or building regs).

I've been looking at various software for the past few months for a complex conversion/extension and haven't found anything that's really that practical to use for typical UK construction. Things like cavity walls (and 600mm stone stone walls!) are hard to draw when they assume your house is going to be wood sticks at 16" intervals with 4x8 panels stapled on each side...
