Nubee is a far advanced term for my knowledge of computers and OS's, websites notwithstanding. Hopefully my deficiency won't preclude my 5 minute ago registration, nor the following inquiries. BTW, I also had a cat that curled up on my shoulders during my daily jog. I miss you, Bunkie. Ok. Inadvertantly I deleted folders/files from Documents and Settings in XP. By doing so, I somehow partially deleted parts of word docs saved not only on the desktop, but apparently in the folders I deleted. I hate XP. Only because I don't have a handle on it yet...maybe. To the meat. Is there a way to recover those files? System restore points file/folder must have been deleted as well. I used a registry cleaner, and poof*. There went everything. This computer is not mine, reformatting isn't an option, nor is a program that recovers files. But, when my other half finds his daily log only partially intact...
Help. This is a dell/P4. No log on--just his name as owner etc. DUS file seems irrelevant at this juncture. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening.

Go to search and search on "system restore". It will review how it works and from when you can restore from.

Merci! Brian, sys restore was my first thought. No luck. No restore date other than that immediate point. I must have wiped the whole mess out with one click of the delete key. My recycle bin deletes immediately, so no luck there either. I have searched dilligently for the file, to no avail.
Mais merci pour votre aide.
