I just had a call from a potential customer to whom I had sent a response to an inquiry about a month ago.

The fellow lost my original message. He searched on Google using the same search term he used previously. (He couldn't remember my company name) ... and ended up on the site of a major competitor. He got to their site from a directory site which returned the first result in the SERPS ... where my site used to be.

My competitor "pretended" to be me! During their phone conversation, this fellow began to wonder if he was in fact speaking to the same person because (he said), she new very little about the boat we had been discussing.

He asked her a pertinent question about a specific topic we had discussed during his first phone call to me. She didn't give him the right response. He finally told her that he was certain he had not reached the right "Liane" and hung up.

The question he asked her was, "How do you spell your first name?" He had asked me because his wife has the same first name as I, but much different spelling!

He remembered how my first name was spelled, so he searched on Google for my name and added "BVI". It came up first in the SERPS! :)

I called my competitor and asked for Leigh ann. The answer was they don't have anyone named Leigh Ann or Liane or anyone with a name even remotely close to mine! Ha ... nice try!

I just hope all my "potential" customers are that bright!

Maybe you should change your business name to something like "Liane's BVI Boat World"... :)
