With Turkey Day fast approaching I got some email forwards with all of the black friday deals, so it got me pretty excited about some of the tech deals. Some pretty good dvd deals too. Who else is ready to brave the crowds?

I plan on staying in and hiding on Black Friday.. I worked in retail for four years and worked every single Black Friday... It scares the bejeezus out of me to be near any retail establishment during any part of that weekend. I have seen people get into fights over "giveaway" items or special deals... I have seen people lined up outside a store at 3 in the morning.. It is scary...

We send out a huge liquidation email to our customers on Black Friday. We call it our stocking stuffer sale. Clears out the overstock in a snap!

It's not worth it. Around here the lines to check out literally wrap all the way around Best Buy, Walmart, and any other store running a sale.

You show up at 5am, wait for the doors to open, run to get the exact item you want because there aren't many. Then wait in line for 4 hours to check out.

If you only make $6/hr you would have to save $30+gas for the time it takes to make it worth it.

It brings back bad memories of working in retail...ehhh. The only thing worse was working on New Years Day hung over.

I was born for black friday, saturday, sunday...oh heck the whole darn year.

SOmehow I am excited about the possibilities.

Yes its more fun on line your looking for a nice jumper and have to spend hours trawling through google with lots of websites about anything but buying jumpers, perhaps with the broadmatch this will lead you to pages about cars, motorbikes and perhaps theatre tickets if your lucky.
Should waste a few hours until the shops open lol!

Every year you have to show up earlier and earlier. Last year I showed up at BB at 6:00 AM and the line was at least 200 people long. That was it for me, I turned the car around, arrived home and crawled back into bed. Not worth it anymore, especially when they limit the stock of the stores to 15 units.

I gave up shopping in stores for Xmas a few years ago. So much easier to order online and have it delivered and these days, with so many companies offering free shipping, so, so much cheaper.

Many places there won't be a "Black Friday" this year, I think. They have received way too much snow ;)

This does not apply to Canada, does it? We already had our thanks giving a while ago... What about US owned stores like Best Buy and Costco, are they going to have black Friday, even if they are located in Canada?

Black Friday - The day where all good US males are to be found on holes 1 thru 19 (the best are at #19) and all good US females are to be found buying gifts to show their appreciation for their dedicated male partners.

IMHO anyone wanting to fight the crowds in the malls needs to see a psychiatrist, those wanting to fight for the bar tenders attention at #19 deserve an award for bravery.....I'm going for the latter.....any females who have seen the light will be made very welcome ;)

Hmmm, in the UK I have heard it said that the week starting December 27th is National Take-It-Back Week due to the number of people returning unwanted Christmas presents for a refund.

Well, I have seen an increase of traffic, but decrease in sales and registrations today. Yesterday, it was higher by about 22%. Don't know whats the deal for today though.

Then you have lots of deals and places like staples and officemax. I got a new laptop for myself. Was a GREAT deal. :-)

Thankfully here in Britain we don't have thanksgiving (though some say we should for their own reasons [;o)]) and hence we don't have black Friday because people can shop for Christmas anytime from September onwards. Actually the weekend after Christmas is normally the killer here.

Would have to pay me 10 times my current wage to go back and work the till in Woolies on that weekend again. The best ones were the customers returning stuff. Waiting in shopfront checkout line looking pissed off for 45 mins, only to be pointed at the F***ing big sign that you can't miss as you come in saying that "returns will only be handled at the customer service counter at the back of the store."

They normally get abusive when you point this out to them but sometimes it is funny even if they do put off other customers, people should really learn to read. One year though we tried something different, as they were so easy to spot in the queue we decided to ask them if they were returning an item and point them right before they had waited too long, most appretiated it if begrudgingly. As the queues got longer during the day we asked one of our Junior staff members to help as well, we pointed him at the little old lady who had a box in one hand and a reciept in another, unfortunately she was like a bull in a ducks body and proceeded to lay six shades of profanity into him for it.

We had to send the poor kid down to the stock room for a few hours because he was a wreck. Why anyone would want to shop or do retail work within 3 weeks either side of Christmas is beond me really.
