this must be a sick joke or a real crazy but in either case the request was:

"....if I send you a human toe, can you make a good luck charm of it? ..... Money is not an object, please send estimates for one or more toes in silver, gold or platinum. The donor is a physician so I can assure you it will come in pristine condition? ....."

when did human toes become like bunny rabbit's feet - did I miss this? there's some weird people out there

I wonder if the point is that this is not just an anonymous toe but the toe of someone special. (But I don't know if that would make the request less bizarre.)

yes, evidently it is someone special. I left out that the requestor was romantically involved with the donor - a physician. I surmise from the request that the physician had some good luck and wants to continue this by wearing their toe as a good luck charm. Also, it appears the toe is still connected because they have not decided yet which toe, or toes, to use yet :o

Whether or not this is a valid request, these folks are strange and bizarre! I've gotten weird requests before, but this beats all.

The real question is why did they ask you ;)

I think I would be calling the local authorities... just in case.

I'd check with the police - you don't know where he got that toe. I'm having visions of some criminal keeping memorabilia (sp)

Oh, no folks - I don't have the toe (thank gawd!). This was an email inquiry, which I did not respond to. Should the toe or toes show up, you can count on it, I'll call the police ASAP. I doubt I'll hear anything about this again.

BTW, I'm just an ordinary jeweler, no dragons, skulls or anything else that might have caused the sender to think I would make a charm from a human body part.

I just thought it would be interesting to share strange and bizarre requests that come as a result of a website.

During the (U.S.) Civil War, it was common for amputees to keep their former limbs as souvenirs

Hmmm... never got that one before. Wonder if it was a hairy toe?
;)
My strangest recent request was if I could solder the earring back to the earring so that they would not lose the diamond post. I replied "NO! and if some jeweler says yes do not trust them." I suggested that they bend the wire post instead.

note: She would be wearing it at the time.

When I used to run a biomedical website, I once got an email asking if I could help someone with the sale of their testicles. They wanted to use the proceeds to help pay for an operation to become a woman, and figured they wouldn't be needing them anymore anyway.
