I'm in the market as well and have looked at the 5700. Nice unit but for close to the same dough you can get the new Canon Rebel digital SLR. I'm leaning that way.

That is an interesting camera. The specs are really close. Thanks for the suggestion.

The Canon has a plastic body... What do you think about that?

I got the A70 myself. Sticky me and I can send you a link to a great digital photo review site (pretty popular and famous but I don't think we're allowed to post links here).

The body of this camera does have a real cheap feel to it but nothing out there can match it as far as value goes for a digital SLR. Battery is charging as I speak, I'll let you know how I like it.

I have a Sony that is 5 years old, with a floppy drive. Was a great camera.....never a problem. Really took a licking. I am always tossing it in my backpack and it bangs up against things.
It was and still is a good enough camera for web work, but after 5 years, I'm afraid I'm on pushing my luck.

I'm pretty rough on it, so I'm not quite sure about the plastic body on the Canon.
But the reviews and specs really look good on the Canon.

I got the 5700. Currently Nikon is offering $100 off. That put the price to $799.
So far I'm really happy with the output.

Word of caution.... Eats batteries
