Last night I decided to say up and memorize all the capitals of:
• the provinces of Canada
• the United States
• the countries of the world

It took me quite some time...

But now I know that, for example, the capital of Mongolia is 'M'. Then there's the United Arab Emirate that has three capitals: 'U', 'A', and 'E'...

Download Yakko's inspiring song. The Animanicas also do the State capitals and the U.S. Presidents.

I think the Animaniac version of "Countries of the World" is sung to the tune of the Mexican Hat Dance. Yep, pretty sure...

it starts to get tough when we are talking about micronesia, latvia, and the ever confusing 'stans. The goal is to be able to have a blank map of the world and be able to fill in all the country names correctly.

a lot has changed since 6th grade

the animaniacs songs are great to get the names straight but they don't help with the location.

animaniacs - that is how i memorized all the presidents and us state capitals.

Some say the U.S. starts with U.K. T in the C, though that is inaccurate.

Ooooh, had figured it had to do with that, but didn't get the C. Was trying to remember about a river starting with C...

I have a quiz application on my Palm for world capital cities. Africa has just too many countries, and I will never be able to remember the capital cities of all those small island countries.

I keep getting stuck in eastern europe and the 'stans.

That's because everytime you get them all straight, either 5 new countries appear, or a half dozen have merged together...

half dozen have merged together

Now that is very rare. In fact I can't remember any occasion when eastern Europe or 'stans' merged since a very long time. IIRC the last time was when Czechoslovakia was founded after WWI. And they have split now.

I could argue that Germany is not Eastern, but Central Europe, but in fact I had just completely forgotten about that event.

When I was younger I memorised all the US states in alphabetical order - it comes in handy at pub quizzes and usually comes out when I'm half cut on a Friday night. Sad really...

what about serbia and montenagro

Serbia and Montenegro used to be part of Yugoslavia together with Croatia, Slovenia and a few others. That's not a merge, just an incomplete breaking up.
