Just a reminder to all of those who observe it, tonight(tomorrow morning at 2am) we move our clocks an hour ahead.

What does it mean? If you are in Chicago you can stay out drinking to "6am" instead of just 5am tonight. If you are anything like me, it will mess your schedule up until the next time change. I hate daylight savings.

Here is a nice little resource on it:

Maybe I got it wrong... I just wait until the next day and look at my cell phone or computer and adjust all the clocks accordingly. I hate it.

This is interesting:

Nationwide, U.S. restaurants and bars have varied closing policies. In many states, liquor cannot be served after 2 a.m. But at 2 a.m. in the Fall, the time switches back one hour. So, can they serve for that additional hour in October? The official answer is that the bars do not close at 2 a.m. but actually at 1:59 a.m. So, they are already closed when the time changes from Daylight Saving Time into Standard Time. In practice however, many establishments stay open an extra hour in the Fall.

I wonder how you get paid if you are working during the change.

Thanks for the reminder that our days will be dark by 4:30 and longing will overcome our souls.

>> Forward or Back? <<

This depends if you are in the Northern or Southern hemisphere.

.

This is the situation in October each year:

In the North, the end of summer sees the end of daylight savings time (where the clocks were one hour ahead of standard time) and a return to standard time, meaning that at 02:00 you wind the clock back to 01:00 and have that hour again.

In the South, the end of winter sees the beginning of daylight savings time (where the clocks are put forward to be one hour ahead of standard time), meaning that at 02:00 you wind the clock on to 03:00 and miss out on an hour of sleep.

This is the time of year, where part of Australia being 14 hours ahead of part of the US, is now suddenly 16 hours ahead.

.

Clear?

Well I do not know about a good memory...it works, but I was a bit off. SPRING FOWARD, FALL BACK it should be if you are in Chicago.

I appologize in advance for anyone who does the opposite and is in the northern hemisphere.

I am just looking foward to my post times syncing up again.

I am going to start "people who hate daylight savings" webring.

... and that maxim is true everywhere. If in your area Summer is about to start, then add an hour to the Standard Time Zone. If Winter is about to start, then take the hour off, and revert to your Standard Time.

In October, the North is just beginning Winter. In the South, their Summer is about to start.

How about the people who hates standard time.

I prefer that extra hour of daylight at the end of the day. I don't mind it being dark when I go to work, as Im never fully awake until morning coffee break anyways.

If you think this is confusing - in Israel they decide each year on which day they should change the time.

Ridiculous, pointless confusing mess. Especially in Alaska. It's light all day during the summer, so it's not like we need to save any of it... Then during winter we only get 2-3 hours of daylight in early afternoon, so it's dark in the morning no matter what you do.

Arizona had the sense to abolish it... now if only the rest of the world would follow suit. Really now, electric lighting made it obsolete years ago!

At 4:45am I was awakened to one of my smoke alarms needing a new battery. Sure, sure, I know you're supposed to change the batteries when time change comes, but does it have to be within a couple of hours? Anyway, this stupid sound goes off LOUDLY every sixty seconds, driving all of the pets (and me) nuts. There's no way to turn it off. I had to go out at 5am to get new batteries. I lost my extra hour of sleep. I am bitter.

Not only am I mad at the stupid smoke alarm design (how about a low battery snooze, so people have time to get the new battery and put it in), but the builder who put the smoke alarm on the ceiling at the top of the stairs, near the edge of the step. Surely it could be just as effective two feet back.
