How low is too low for jeans..

America's low-rise obsession gone too far?

Early low-riders had a rise of about 7 inches. Over the past couple of years, the rise has dipped as low as 3 or 4 inches. Low-rise, it seems, has become synonymous with no-rise. Gasoline, a Brazilian company, has even created Down2There jeans, which feature a bungee cord that allows the wearer to lower her pants as she sees fit, as though adjusting a set of Venetian blinds.

For my 16 year-old daughter, any low-rise jeans are too low. For the rest of the trim and fit female population that are old enough to vote, that's their choice. :)

A few years ago, one could observe low-rise jeans only on plumbers and other contractors, usually accompanied by a too-short T-shirt considerably stressed by a large, Budweiser-fueled belly. By comparison, the adoption of this style by (mostly) fit young women has to be considered an improvement. ;)

I agree 100% with Trisha on this.

I'm fairly short through the middle so being able to wear jeans which don't come nearly up to my armpits is wonderful. Before my only option was to wear mens jeans but the waist was always too big and the legs too small.

But mine aren't terribly low either. If you can't sit down without them rolling off, can't wear normal underwear, or get what my friends call 'builders butt' then they are too low. And that's just icky.

And that whole thong sticking out the top thing? So so trashy. Why do people do that?

One 16-year old girl in 20 looks good in them. Almost no one over 25 should be allowed to wear them. You could make a lot of money photographing women in low riders and selling back the pics in 20 years. Yep, some girls look like middle aged plumbers in them.

I readily admit that one girl in 20 may look REALLY good in those pants.

My little sister was a high-school senior last year during the height of the low-rise, thong craze. She and her clique of friends were brutal to the foolish. One girl wore low-rises and thongs every day, so you could see the entirety of the back of her nonexistant underpants as you sat in the cafeteria. my sister went up to the girl, tapped her on the shoulder, and yelled "CRACK KILLS!"

She didn't get it, though. Bare-arsed and stupid, I guess...
The thing is, you have to know how exposed you are. That's happened to me once. One time. I said oops, not wearing these pants with a short shirt again-- the first time I sat down in them. Not opting for more sensible underwear, or more sensible pants to begin with, has to be deliberate. You must assume that people want to look at your bum.
But...
No. Sadly, like in many things in life, the people doing it are not the ones you want to do it. Only the good die young, and only the unattractive expose themselves unduly.

Interestingly the low-rider, flare legged craze stictly relates to girls. That's unlike the 70s when both sexes wore flared pants; guys seemingly never do nowadays.

In my line of work, I DO have to notice these things. Some people are plumbers; others have to study girls in tight pants. Gotta run. I like to start the day early :)

How right you are, dragonlady... Every fashion trend dies when it migrates to the mass market and is adopted by people who shouldn't even think about wearing that style. I'm already seeing low-rise jeans into which pudgy users have stuffed themselves like sausages... nothing like topping a great set of jeans with an overhanging roll of pale, flabby flesh. :(

I'm short and small everywhere and have always had the problem with pants coming up way to far. Low rise pants are the first pants I've ever had that really fit me well and are comfortable. Everything else just feels like it's cutting me in half when wearing them. I guess I need to go buy some more while they are still in style so I'll have some to last me for a long time.

That may be true but where I live, the girls that do wear them look great.
