A man walks into a bar and asks the barman for a glass of water. The barman pulls out a gun and points it at the man. The man says 'Thank you' and walks out.

Why? ;)

The missing dollar is due to adding the same money more than once.

It's the way it is phrased Ben

The fact that 3 X 9 = 27 has no bearing on the actual figures payed.

Its 30 - 25 = 5

5 - 2 = 3 (money back)

I think? :)

3 x 9 = 27 (what the students actually paid)

+ 3 (what the students have left) = 30

It fools you by implying what the assistant's money can be added to what the students paid - his money is already included in the 27

3 X 9 = 27
+2 = 29

where is the other pound?

What other pound? The maths is wrong:-

3 x 9 = £27

The shopkeeper has £25, the assistant has £2.

25 + 2 = 27

SORRY ALL - that silly work lark got in the way of WebmasterWorld time!

Chndru got the answer.

The man is a lighthouse keeper and woke up in the middle of the night in the dark, which meant he had fogotten to turn on the beacon light. Knowing that boats probably crashed and people dies he decided to take his own life....

Last time I pose a puzzle on a quiet day.... Damn you Murphy and your stupid law! Damn you to Hell!

4,0,3,1,0,1,1,1,4,0,2,1,8,8,3,1,0,1,2,2,1,2,4,0,0,0

For a hint on why this is the series, add up the numbers.

Still, no? Count how many numbers there are.

Letters of the alphabet? Number of US states beginning with each letter?

I don't know of any, but I am normally better at cracking codes.

My cousin had in her notepad the other day:

LBUZMPWFT....

Unfinished (as it was in her pad), but took me a couple of seconds to crack it, being a simple code. (Bear in mind she is a teenage girl).

My own favourite (don't know how well this translates culturally):

Which is the odd one out, and why?

5,7,15,23,27,28.

Answers on a postcard.
