I'm A Grown Up Now!

Almost graduated and now have my own PC

It has finally happened.

I have finally handed in my thesis (been working on it for 20 months...). 3 months to go, and I will get my mark and officially have an MA in Danish Literature and Language and English ditto.

As I have also aquired a new PC (thanks, Dad) which thanks to Nick_W is now on line with Linux, I believe I can now call myself a grown up!

My first goal as a grown up is of course to become a Full Member of Webmasterworld.

Congratulations! Nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment that comes with handing in the final draft of a paper that's been labored over for such a long period of time.

Adding a few letters after your name is nice but doesn't compare to finishing that thesis. More than likely though, you'll find yourself wanting to get involved in another major project. Be careful there. You'll come to value that free time as much as you enjoyed working on your thesis. And don't kid yourself, no one spends 20 months on a paper without enjoying the subject matter. ;)

To get out of law school, everyone has to do a legal research class. The paper only had to be 25-30 pages long. When I got to 70 pages I figured enough was enough and stuck a conclusion on it.

The topic? Erroneous criminal convictions. Fascinating stuff. BTW, the number one reason for erroneous convictions is eyewitness misidentification.

Oh yeah, congratualtions Ivana. Hope to see you in Orlando. :)

digitalghost,

I do actually already think of the next big project... the student life style seems to be difficult to get rid off! Oh, well, it's early days, I guess.

lawman,

I must say that's quite a subject you wrote about! I never thought erroneous criminal convictions would be part of law school, I thought that belonged in the police academy.

Yeah, Orlando is top of my list!

strange that... I was working on similar material while getting my degree, but from a completely different perspective. It was a psych degree and I recall writing a shorter paper than yours on 'children's eyewitness testimony', from the view of how it's affected in the interim from the incident. Which sadly, is also a major reason for wrongful convictions, but most of the time it's not the kids fault, it's the stupid adults who question them.

'twas no masters thesis though, congrats Ivana.

Ivana,

Congrats on getting to the final stages, and good luck with the marks.

The student vibe - takes a long time to shake - its a lifestyle that I personally highly desire, even though i was skint most of the time. If everything went down the tube's as such, i think i would head back to students-ville to study, live the life.

Yeah, I know what you mean, caine, I'll miss the student bar, even though I haven't been there for at least 2 years.

Writing the thesis (100 pages...) was at times a very lonely process, even though I did enjoy disappearing into my own little world... What did you study?

smellystudent;

"I'm a lurker; reading and learning lots, but nothing much to contribute or ask yet."

I know exactly what you mean, just compare my date of joining with my amount of posts. But I have no excuse any longer...
