Computer runs Windows 98, has exterior cable modem & Lynksys card. Plug same cable from same modem into back of computer B (this one) and the web just flies. (Eliminates cable connection as cause.)
No new programs installed recently. I've run Norton Anti-virus & Spybot to eliminate viruses, etc as cause. Run scandisk & disk defragmenter, rebooted, cleared & restarted the modem. All several times.
Disk-defrag has helped in the past to speed things up but no longer. Not sure if this a harware or software problem.
Nearest computer shop is an hour's drive each way. Before going out to buy a new network card, can a bad card cause this problem? If the connection completely stopped rather than slowed to a crawl I'd have more reason to suspect it.
Your suggestions most appreciated.

Seems to be back up to semi-lightning speed again after doing nothing except looking at it with a screwdriver in hand. Hmm.

You might want to see if there is a driver upgrade, and to also see if the card isn't starting to work out of it's slot.
