I've recently started exercising which I hope can reduce my stress levels and slow the thinning process down as a bonus
I hate to say this ... but unfortunately muscle building/strength/resistence exercises increase the 'testosterone' level in the body which results in more production of 'DHT' the main cause of male pattern hair loss .
So heavy exercise may actually result in more hair loss ...if you want the proof just see all those big body building guys :)
If hair loss is a problem it better to avoid or minimize weight/strength exercises and go only for cardio/fat burn type exercises .
At night rub chicken <manure> on your hair, get up in the morning and…
Never tried it but it might work :0

Just handle it the old fashioned way and wear a hat. ;) You could always grow one side out really long and swirl it around your head. Nothing says manly like a good comb-over!
I started seeing signs of MPB several years ago (now 25), and I definitely understand what you're going through. Here are a few thoughts:
As others have mentioned, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the culprit in hairloss. You are experiencing male pattern baldness because your hair (and the hair of others w/ MPB) is sensitive to the DHT in your body.
The hairs that are sensitive to DHT are on the top of the head. This is why hair transplants take hair from the side of the head and move it to the top of the head.
As a side note to DHT, the same DHT that takes the hairs off your head also encourages the growth of body hair in other areas (think back, nose, etc.). I know ... it is a cruel world.
As I see it, you basically have two non-surgical options to combat baldness:
1. Decrease the levels of DHT in your body by taking DHT-inhibitors like propecia.
2. Decrease the amount of DHT on your scalp.
As for #1, my current personal choice is that I don't want to mess with the hormone levels in my body even if it means hair loss. I received a prescription once from a dermatologist for propecia, but I ultimately didn't take it for fear of side effects. I also tried taking Saw Palmetto, (a natural DHT inhibitor), but stopped after taking it after only a few weeks for fear of side effects.
If you decide to go with option #1, I would at least recommend you do some research and make an informed decision.
As for option #2, I currently use a shampoo with a 1% solution of Ketoconazole, a topical DHT inhibitor. Several studies have shown Keto. slows hair loss. You will find Keto. in several shampoos billed as dandruff shampoos. A brand name in the states that has a 1% Keto. solution is Nizoral. Many stores also have a generic "store brand." This is a pretty cheap treatment compared to some of the other options.
Also, remember both options 1 and 2 are not permanent fixes. The moment you stop treatment, hairloss will start again. Especially with prescription drugs, this can become very expensive.
Beware there are a lot of charlatans hawking all kinds of products to stop hair loss. It is easy to get caught up by their sales pitch, but you should do some research before purchasing and purported miracle cure.
You may want to have your doctor run some tests to be sure your hair loss really is from MPB. Sometimes hairloss can arise from conditions other than MPB and treatment options are much different.
As far as weight lifting, I have only read information from one expert who says that although weight-lifting has an androgenic (hormone-increasing) effect on the body, it is not clear whether it speeds up hairloss. I enjoy weight lifting so much that I wouldn't give it up even it was contributing to my hair loss.
As for self-esteem issues, my feeling is that if you can work on accepting yourself, it won't be a big deal to others. If you are comfortable with yourself, others will pick up on that. Also, I promise you that other people aren't thinking about your hairloss nearly as much as you are.
I hope this helps. V
Someday I pray we all give the fashion police a universal flying fickle finger of fate.
Can you imagine what might happen between the sexes if the billions we spend on "looking good" for one another was actually spent on something fun and worthwhile ..... like a good meal for 2 ..... or flowers and a nice gift for your girlfriend/wife ..... or a nice bottle of wine...
I know guys get all wound up about hair issues.. but honestly, most of us women really truly don't care.. what we do like is a guy who presents whatever he's got nicely and is confident enough to just say 'this is me' and not have to overemphasise or hide any aspect of himself.
And trust me on this... even if some of us do like long hair... NONE of us like combovers.
Unless you're working for Hairclub of America or something, I can't see that an employer could object to a tidy all one length 1/4 inch or so buzzcut.
Some people believe better permanant hair loss treatments (like gene repair) will come in another 5-10 years so its worth to use drugs to save as much as hair as possible until then ...
The best treatment now is to use both oral DHT inhibitors like propecia and topical ones (Roagaine) along with shampoos like Nizoral or Nano .
The problem is you have to use them continously and the moment you stop you will loss whatever hair regrowth you have gained and also oral drugs like propecia may mess with errection :)
This is a good table of all the treatments available

Bald men have higher sex drives. What was his basis for the observation? Well...
If you look at one of the side effects of Rogaine, which is used to stop the balding process and possibly grow hair back, it's reduced libido.
One of the side effects of Viagra is...HAIR LOSS.
So it may not be such a bad thing if you men start losing your hair ;)
If you want a dog to have a healthy coat
brush it often. the same same with lots
of other animals.
Why not us humans?
My brother is very bald yet not me, to the
contrary I have a real good (coat) of hair.
Seriously I had real trouble keeping my hair
even reasonable tidy (triple crowns etc )and got
in the habit of brushing it often.
Combs were no go only a brush would do it.
I swear it's made the difference.
Yes and I am at that age when people notice
Heck this secret was going to make me a fortune
there you go I've let it out free.
