A 'one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater' came for Shep Tuesday. Sheb was born in tiny Erick Oklahoma

His tv credits include Pete Nolan in Rawhide and his movie credits included "High Noon" (as a whiskey-drinking killer), "The Outlaw Josey Wales,""The War Wagon,""Distant Drums,""Man Without a Star,""Giant" and "Hoosiers."

As to "The Purple People Eater," for those who dinna recognize the reference, that lil late 50's ditty sold about 3 million copies as a top pop record in 1958

Sheb wrote the theme song for the 70's variety show Hewe-Haw and recorded several humor songs, sometimes under the name of his alter ego Ben Colder. He was CMA's comedian of the year in 1968.

Sheb was one of the good ones, just an interesting ol' cowboy who made a lil' scratch and did a lot of good during his time.

Ahh, remember singing along with that ole tune many a time too as a youngster. Came out near the same time as: "Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda (...here I am, at Camp Crenada)" as I recall.

Sorry to see them go....
