But - down the bottom is a bar with a search box and ADVERTS from a well known UK ISP that I have had a less than successful relationship with in the past... I can't find how to take it away and seeing as I'm not with them anymore I'm finding it quite annoying that they dare to occupy my screen space...
It must have come along with one of their numerous autodialers (which also change your homepage to the ISP's homepage and add around 20 useless links to your favourites and probably change lots of reg settings as well).
I'll be even less likely to use them again now. When high-profile ISP's immitate spyware and scumware you know it is time to get a dedicated 1mb line and leave all that behind.[/rant]
I don't mind when some spammy installer shows me pop-ups every once in a while. I deal with them by automatically running adaware on startup. And at least they're honest about what they do - it isn't as if they pretend not to be the scum of the earth.
But a well known ISP. They must be getting desperate.
HijackThis! seems to be very good at that sort of thing. It found some remnants of an old adware that I had removed by hand about a year ago, and totally got rid of all traces of them. One of the offending items was a button in OE. Not quite the same as the adbar thing you are speaking of, but perhaps you could get similar results. :)
