Hardly a month goes by that I don't get an email from some poetry site suggesting that I can win a fortune entering their contest. I gather the gimmick is they will publish a book with your poem and sell it to you. (like all those Who's Who dealies) Still doesn't make much sense. How many people write poetry.

What's the scam...ma'am?

Even more common are the "free screensaver" links in emails. I assume the screensaver carries scumware along with the "soothing picture of the babbling brook."

Some emails I can figure out: Like the ones lately to open an offshore "Bank Account." Reply that you're interested and they'll send instructions on how to wire your savings to them. They're correct in one way: Your creditors will never get that money!

Having been an english major with an emphasis on creative writing, I have to say, you would not believe the number of people who are poet hopefuls. I think I saw the worst of it when I was a reader (as in read the stuff that people submit) with a literary mag. God awful stuff and each and every one thinks that they are the next Robert Frost or Maya Angelo.

And they would pay any amount of money just to see their words in print anywhere else but thier computer screen.

wanna trade poetry content emails for something else?
Take your pick from the following and get back with me.
Via**** (can provide multiple male and/or female ads)
low cost herbal enhancements
low cost cigarettes
worm blasters
real "steals" on av software
lots of peeps I've never heard of who really miss me
and (too) many many more!

What one learns from the in-box:
Viagra
Porn
Scam stocks
Online casinos
Male products
Female products
Russian "girl friends"
Poetry

Anyone know an effective "poetry" filter to protect the kids?

Okay, now what about the freebie screen saver offers? Some backdoor way of sneaking Robert Frost into my machine?
