How many of you use google's "did you mean.." feature as their spellcheck instead of looking the words up? I find it a lot faster than dictionarywhatever.com and all that.

(I wish opera's right click dictionary feature worked for textareas and input boxes)

I've used it a couple times, but then I realized that the results are based on frequency of use, not on correctness of spelling. Now I frequently use the Google Glossary [labs.google.com] and the dictionary links directly available there.

I use dictionary.com for that. :) It's faster than using a "real" dictionary, and it doesn't have the downside Google does: If a misspelling is common enough, Google will sometimes feature the misspelling as one of its "Did You Mean...?" links.

However, my ultimate ambition is to get one of those super-complete dictionaries that's printed on onionskin paper, with a magnifier, and it's own heavy-duty podium stand. I just like the idea of hunching over a giant book, leafing through the pages, and scrutinizing it through a magnifier. Add in a giant stockpot of beer brewing in the fireplace, and you'd get an almost perfect alchemist/wicked witch ambience. :)

::shuffles away from the book stand & tosses a handful of fragrant green stuff into a giant kettle, stirrring quickly as the pot begins to boil over::

There goes the supper.......

Ick... anyone who tries to eat un-fermented beer for supper deserves whatever horrible gastrointestinal tortures it might cause. ::shudder::

If I don't feel like going to dictionary.com (or if I'm at home and not dialed-up), I'll type the word into Eudora and see if it gets the red underline treatment...

is this just me or what... try this search, the kw is random:

[google.com...]

now, on the blue bar on the top, there's this sentence:

>>>Searched the web for gizmo

"gizmo" is underlined. Click it. Voila - dictionary.com. Has nobody noticed this before?
