If you live in the UK and shop at one of the big retailers, lemme tell ya that the Govt is sponsoring (this retailer) a new chip implant the size of a grain of sand.

There are HUGE plans for this technology which, though not exactly new, is now taking on a monumentally radical change of use...and it's already started!

More info; [news.com.com...] - Notice the date of that article but it only just seems to have hit out TV news media tonight...scarey

sounds great - if only privacy moaners don't kill it or maim it first. i'm dying for the uk to have a nice strong way of tracking everyone and everything - stamp out crime and theft - it's worth it!

just did a google search on "RFID" and there are lots of adwords.

most of them arent even tracking ROI or clicks from Google, I would hardly trust them to track what clothes I am wearing.

SHAK: Yeah I too noticed that.

I think this link will meet with our guidelines but delete if necessary obviously:
[nocards.org...]

The ultimate goal is for Auto-ID to create a "physically linked world" in which every item on the planet is numbered, identified, catalogued, and tracked. And the technology exists to make this a reality.

...and on the crime front...

people might balk at the thought of police using Auto-ID to scan the contents of a car's trunk without needing to open it.

Thing with the crime angle is that it's impossible to live in our modern society without breaking the law, as any normally "law-abiding" citizen who owns a car will testify no doubt. I think it was in the yr 2k that the UK introduced over 4000 laws...obviously these cover all spectrums of business and social discourse but I'd wager that not even the brightest lawyers could know what they were, let alone Joe Bloggs...

...however, a database would have no problem!
