I don't know about the places in the UK - I would imagine online is going to be much cheaper - try a Google query:

www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=purchase+japanese+windows

Although it doesn't directly answer your question, windows XP professional is double byte capable- meaning you can use Japanese text/fonts, and run Japanese programs. So you may not need a Japanese OS.

I know. Have a look at this post [webmasterworld.com] for why I need one.

Generally Microsoft places restrictions on their local dealers so it would not be possible to order this online from outside Japan from places like Amazon.co.jp or other outlets...but you probably already know this. Your best bet might be to check out Yahoo.co.jp's auction site and see if you can't find a copy there. Other than that I would say that you'd have to get someone to buy it locally and ship it to you.

If this is likely to happen a lot, Microsoft do a program called MSDN Universal where you receive all the international versions of everything.

Am rethinking my requirement for a JP OS.

Does anyone know if you can install a (UK) version of Windows as Japanese

i.e. Select something in the configuration that makes it default to Japanese.

Or do I actually have to buy one.

Go to a Japanese store, they should have them in big cities. Like out here theres a japanese market and they have a book store inside which sold the japanese windows os. It was more expensive but an option.

Yeah - I know somewhere where I can get one now - but I'm trying to work out whether I really need to buy one, or if I can just configure the existing package.

Might try asking in the Asia SEO form
