To add to this saga...

Windows XP pro didn't pick up the modem, I removed it, put it back ... still din't find it.

I downloaded a newer xp driver for it ... still didn't work.

Invested in another new modem for windows XP ... didn't detect hardware, manual detect doesn't work it doesn't show it in the list.

I reinstalled XP, removed the modem, switched off, switched on, ... off, added modem ..on ...didn't detect hardware.

....so, here I am begging for more help please chaps!

Did the modem driver installation have a setup or just an .inf file? Generally Setups have worked. I have had bad experiences with .inf files for driver installations with XP. At the most try ans search google for specific modem driver and you might hit some forum where there might be a solution. HTH .

I think I've finally sorted that one out ... to discover another one!

It now tells me to install the driver for PCI Simple Communications Controller.

I'm assuming its a modem, I have two - Broadband and standard, both are installed but the 'found new hardware' hassles me with this PCI thingy - does anyone know what it might be?
