I was listing to old This American Life shows last night and a piece about this magazine had air a few weeks ago. It's a magazine that encourages people to send in the odd scraps that they find on the ground. Notes, photos, lists...

Looking at the "Find of the week" is a great way to blow a little time. Some of the finds are kinda creepy. But, I think I may have discovered a new hobby - picking up trash for the entertainment value.

I find those "Help I lost my pet!" posters compelling and collectable. Not worth any money but there's a lot of drama in those things...

>"Help I lost my pet!" posters

One day, bored in Grand Central Station (NYC), I wandered into the Discovery store there.
They had a shelf of books.
One of the books was called something like "Lost And Found", and it was a collection of lost / found pet posters.
I found it so sad! There were a couple of really sad ones, and one that I couldn't tell if it was sad or funny--

"Lost Dog
No Collar
No Legs
Needs Medicine!"

The one that almost made me cry right there was this one:
"Missing Dog.
Children Are Crying." and then a description of the dog and the contact info and all that.
I had to stop reading it because it was so sad. Our family dog got lost when I was an infant and she never came back, but I don't really remember it. The dog that replaced her was like another sister and I'm sure I didn't know the difference between her and my other sisters until I learned to walk on two legs and she didn't...

I liked this one:

Lost Dog $50 Reward Black and tan dog of poodle and German shepherd descent. Flea-bitten, left hind leg missing, no hair on rump, blind, and recently neutered. Answers to the name of "Lucky."

Lucky? LOL...
