My wife packs for such trips by taking out everything she can think of that she might need and then whittles it down (under protest) to what she can fit into the car.
I'm the opposite. I make a list and edit the list down to what I want/need and then pack accordingly. I often go with less than I need. The last time I forgot it might rain and left behind my rain slicker. It rained.
Today I went to get one of the 6 suitcases in the attic that we own so I could begin my packing only to find they were already gone.
*uh oh*
if you have the chance and are passing through the area, the big Yarmouth Clam Festival is this weekend... lots of fun stuff, and plenty of seafood! I'll be there filling up at some point.
have a great time.
I'm not eligible for a vacation until next February. My boyfriend's father died and I had to take unpaid leave to go to the funeral. (Was I letting him drive 400 miles alone after a shock like that? No. Could I afford the unpaid time? No.) It was awful. Everyone told me that I'd love getting out into the working world after college but I have no idea what they were talking about...
It's a beautiful day. Here I sit. I've never been to Maine. That would be nice. Take me with you? :)
I pack like your wife, but I plan like you. I make a list, cross out redundant or unneccessary items, rewrite the list, pare it down still further, and then pack everything I own anyway... Well, it doesn't matter because I won't be going anywhere for a really long time. :/
So, enjoy your vacation! Tell us all about it! Post pictures and graphic details of how good the barbequeue and the lobster dinners were! I'll daydream about it...
I hate to plan trips and have managed so far not to. I spent 6 month in Europe. I literaly hopped on a plane with three outfits and a toothbrush in a backpack. Had no clue where I was going but boy did I have fun when I got there. :) Every trip in my adult life has been like this... so far.
My husband's family sounds like your wife. Everything but the kitchen sink will be packed. They have planned every meal for a week (right down to breakfast and drinks in the evening) and have bought all the food ahead of time to be packed. They even had a "Pre-vacation planning party" to plan what we would be doing every minute of the trip.
I don't think this is going to be much of a vacation. *sigh*
Haven't had one in nearly 2 years :( but between the business of being a self-employed couple and having a baby born during that time frame, I guess it's okay - time enough for travel later, right? We're planning a vacation for early next year.
I'm pretty practical at packing. I don't want to take the kitchen sink! We're more a "if we need one we can buy one" group. So we make lists, but pack as minimally as possible... Except with young children, that extra stuff can be a lifesaver.
Have some lobster for us poor vacationless souls, and have fun.

Well - it's a nick for Isabelle.
>> Yarmouth - I'll have to check the map. We're headed for Scarborough.

Ooog. Been there, done that, bought the T-Shirt. Never again. Which is one of the reasons I've been slowly extracating myself from my employer. I'm down to one day a week now. I want my time when I want it.
>> Sounds nice but it's with the in-laws (EEK!)
:)

How true. Izzy gets a whole suitcase for herself. And then there's the beach toys, snacks, diaper bag, wipes/wash clothes, books and toys.... you probably know the drill. ;)
have fun!
That almost sounds like you're on the lamb!
Personally, I consider the upcoming London Pubcon to be a vacation as well since I'll be in foggy London for at least a week (ok maybe a trip north to Scotland for a dram or two of Scotch).
