Stinking Pop ups

I am trying to work and I get a pop up from a company every 5 or 6 pages I go to. I have run Adaware and my virus checker and both come up with nothing as far a viruses go. Adaware comes up with a cookie, but nothing more.

My question is this, short of shutting of my java control is there any affective pop up stoppers out there?

I am running panicware and the new google tool bar and they both catch some, but not all. Any suggestions would be great.

Sticky me if you would like to know the url of the company I am looking to block. Mods if its ok to post it let me know.

Try Spybot Search and Destroy [download.com.com] which is better than adaware for catching spyware.

For an effective popup-stopper, try this [mozilla.org]. ;)

I am not visiting the site. Apparently they are a marketing company that has an aggressive pop up campaign. Its about 10 different sites and sometimes sites I have never had a problem with.

Right now as I type I am on the phone looking to straighten this thing out.

I've been using Firebird for a while now, and I can't remember the last time I saw a pop up thanks to this delightful browser. :)

Netscape has a pop-up blocker.

When I use IE6, I run a program called Stealth Ray that stuffs all the pop-ups. It was offered when I reserved a domain on GoDaddy. It was so cheap I bought without checking it out. I've been using it for a couple of months. It is effective and hasn't had any adverse effects on my computer so far.

I have been tooling around with the new G toolbar and pop up blocker and have found it to be very effective.

I am moving to pop unders on my sites as these don't appear to get blocked.

Yes, I realize the hypocrasy of running pop-ups and unders on my sites while blocking them myself, however, while they continue to generate significant revenue I will continue to tun with them.

I'm not sure how pop ups are generated compared to pop unders, but I can only imagine their days are numbered as well. I haven't seen on of them in ages either. I just assumed thier implimentation was very similar code wise.

pop-unders are basically pop-ups but they don't execute on top of your active window, they open "underneath" it, so that you don't see the ad untill you close your active window.

I have tried several good popup/under suppression programs and the best I have found is Pop-Up Stopper Companion. It is free. Just press the Ctrl key to allow popups, then release to return to suppressing them.

The best banner ad suppression program I have found is AdsOff. It is also free.

I run both at once, and it really increases my browsing enjoyment.

Another question:

Do popup blockers block all popup windows or will ones triggered by the onclick action be disabled as well - I have popups for an online gallery that only popup when 'called' so I'd be very disappointed if they did not function.

The new Alexa 7 has a pop up blocker installed as well although am not overly sure how well it works as when I find sites that do have pop ups etc I tend not to return. Annoying thing about Alexa 7 is that is sometimes thinks that a link that opens a new page is a pop up such as when you click a small image to get the larger.

I use the new google toolbar. I downloaded it this week and I haven't seen a popup since.
