I think a Lurker's Outing is in order, if you are out there, mooching around - why not drop in and say 'hello' - I dare you.
This is how to do it.
You will see a 'post reply' button. That's the secret key!
Click it and a white window on a blue background will appear.
It's like a blank sheet of paper.
If you want, you can just say 'hello' or if you feel you want to write more than one word ... great!
Try a string of words - that's real fun.
Go on it's Friday - ish!
Don't forget to click 'submit' though :)

I'm pleased that people resist posting on webmasterworld. While I'm all for people introducing themselves, I wouldn't encourage anyone to post unless they have a contribution, or a well defined question... 'cept maybe in foo ;) - the rest of webmasterworld is pretty serious, and getting seriously overwrought with postmongers.
Look at how awful google news has gotten over the past few months. I'm glad its become more moderated, I can start spending time there again.. I was getting very tired of too many people posting too much junk.
I've also came to the conclusion that its better to stay quite unless you can add something meaningful (or knowledgeable) into the discussion. Needless to say, I've not been able to add much yet :)
I am a lurker, but I don't want to be...
But this place is so great and it seems like every question I have has already been answered and all problems I could help with have already been solved.

I agree with bigM. I'm not about to take up precious bandwidth or DB space with a question that has already been answered. So I search first. And, by golly, I usually find something useful.
But I suppose I should raise my head out of my work once in awhile and be friendly. :)

I’m a looooong time lurker. I have been visiting WebmasterWorld for the past 18 months and this is my first post. The experience I have gained from reading here is unbelievable.
I have used the techniques to build several websites that are doing extremely well in their respective markets.
Sorry I don’t contribute more, but I’m very busy building new pages. The more checks I get, the more checks I want! I run my websites by the motto “Who ever dies with the most toys wins” ……And I Hate Losing!

Each time you raise in "rank" new->junior->preferred->senior
You get an email with a small WW cartoon or logo type image, and the permission to print one sticker/mug/t-shirt for own non-commercial use ;)
and If you can print a pretend sig of GG on it (hmm from that paper where he signed perhaps) just the geekier erm, I mean cooler.

I probably post a lot these days - relative to others that is. Summer holidays have started in this country, so now i have the time to do so. Plus, i like the idea of giving something back to a forum that has taught me something, so i try to do so when i can. (...yes, i've posted in newsgroups as well, can't help that hippie attitude from sneaking in on me sometimes ;) )
I still learn each day, and i read far more than i write. Peace.

Is there a stigma attached to the term 'lurker'?, it may be that sounds more like someone in a raincoat and trilby!

Yeah what everyone else said -
a) if I hunt around enough I can find the answers to my questions
b) there are many people here who are in a better position to provide authoritative answers to questions.
c) Can't see the point in the "me too" post building
Sometimes feel a bit guilty about not "adding value to the community", but the other day I found a (completely unrelated) forum that I know lots about - so I have taken the philosophy I have seen here and regularly try and help out people who need it, so I guess in the long run i am adding value to the community, just not the immediate one.
Oh yeah reason d) for not posting is that I waffle and it rarely makes sense

I pubicly denounce Killroy as a lurker.
He joined on April Fools Day and has 345 non lurks under his belt. So he's not a lurker, lurker he aint.
