Auto Dial Up Problem

Hello

I have to help a friend who has 4 xp machine with a dial up connection. Despite having set the default on all machines to not check for updates it dials up repeatedly. Sometimes all day long. No clear pattern. There is also Norton antivirus on there.

Any way I can stop this?

If it is NOrton antivirus then you need to change the live update settings to prevent automatic updating, thus constant dialing, same goes for any other software that does a similar function, like adaware pro etc.

<added>And some browser updates too, check netscape if installed, and other progs like realplayer they always need updating.
