I'll take now or in the future, when things (and hopefully society) are hopefully more advanced and generally better in most quality of life respects.
To heck with going back to backward eras with backward people and their backward thinking and ways. Others can have them! Watching various programs on The History or The Discovery channels on how things (and society) were in bye gone eras might sway the points of view of some.
Remember the phrase "harsh (or was it nasty?), brutish and short" as a description of life just a few hundred years ago? What was the average life expectancy back then? Most of us would be dead by now (i.e. current chrono. age). Food for thought.

Doors opened, I was too shook up to analyze the ramifications, so I just walked through. Without going through the gory details, life improved both personally and financially.
Being worse than flat broke brings a feeling of freedom that's hard to explain to someone who hasn't been there.
