Who doesn't look at the 'label' of an individual and make a sub-consious judgment?
By label I mean - 'Junior Member'... other fora use 'newby' etc.
So here I am, 46 years old, been involved in marketing for thirty years and internet marketing since '96 - and I'm a junior! I often wonder sometimes when I post, not here, but elsewhere, whether my message is invisible because I haven't got enough numbers attached.
I'm guilty, because I do it too, not ignore, but look at the 'status' and tend to make a judgement - it's wrong I know, but I'm sure I'm not alone.
It's like an incentive system, reward points - the more you post, the higher you climb.
So, 'serialposter' ... hope there isn't anyone called Serialposter if so, it's not you!
So, 'serial poster' spreads himself out with mindless banter, posts in anything going and reaches the sky with super labels and high ranking status.
Is there a danger that a true green newby could look at serialposter's rank and number and think he's some sort of guru?
....never mind, it's nearly the weekend and Monday is a whole new day.
Serialposter, if you are there, I love you!
I'm 13 ;)
Personally I think that if this 'no post count' thing is a way to get people to not focus on post count. The labels should go also, or just have postcount but no label.
We all make judgements on that, I defy anyone to say otherwise, it's just human nature...
<added>Korkus's point about 'whether they know the system' is a validation of mine. Just not the way I'd have though ;)</added>

Edit -> I missed a word and it looked odd!

Isnt a Jedi just a man with a magic wand pretending to be some sort of fairy?
Its also a religion [gonmad.demon.co.uk] to some.
Ie, members profile would say, this person has been rated by xx amount of members.
The theory is if someone is particularly halpful, they will have more thumbs up than newer or non freuqent posting members.
I know that doesnt really count for much, but it would be next to impossible to rate members on how much they know or how much experience they have.
I cant speak for anyone else, but I usually take each post as it comes rather than putting anyone faith in how many posts the member has.
Or, when a member reaches xx posts, they get to choose their own title! ;) Still meaningless, but a bit more fun....

<soon to be "supreme ruler of the world.."> ;)
btw, I seem to remembe Brett saying that the point of having a 'static post count' embedded in each post (which was the original plan) was puely to save an extra 'lookup' per post per thread.
Maybe this isn't quite the social experiment we all think it is...?
