Hope this doesn't conflict with Pubcon...

You may have wondered how widows and ex-officials from Nigeria can become such prolific and effective e-mail marketers. Now we know... like WebmasterWorld members, these clever direct marketers get together to swap techniques over a brew or two. Check the site for the 3rd Annual Nigerian E-mail Conference [j-walk.com].

This conference looks to be jam-packed with tips for e-mail devotees, including great seminar topics like, "The effectiveness of using all UPPERCASE characters" and "Grammatical errors: What's the optimal number?" This conference certainly looks like it will live up to its motto, "Write better emails. Make more moneys."

Perhaps Brett can contact the conference organizers and negotiate a WebmasterWorld member discount. See you at the Abuja Sheraton! ;)

funny stuff - though some of it bordered on racism.

Hmmm, nothing struck me as overtly objectionable, though I wasn't quite sure about the "cricket" line... I suppose if one was a legitimate Nigerian e-mail marketer it might be a bit-offputting. Or is that the oxymoron du jour?

Attend a lively debate between Lady Mariam Abacha and Mr. Godwin Oyathelem. Topic: "The effectiveness of using all UPPERCASE characters."

Classic!

If your going to be an e-mail marketer with a base operations in Nigeria, bottom line is you are gonna need thick skin.

In America anyway, we have certain inalienable rights. Those rights do not include "the right to not be offended".

Clean up the region's reputation or move out.

I get many copies of the same nigerian scam in my inbox daily. I know, I can filter them I guess, but why should I have to. I pay for my bandwidth and storage... how come these people can suck my resources without penalty?

i didnt mean to offend anybody here with my brief ref to racism.

As far as cleaning out your backyard is concerned, I'm sure there are a lot of other things much higher on the agenda as far as Nigeria is concerned!. And by far the biggest proportion of email spam I get is from is the USA. That doesn't give an out to the nigerian scam techique, but if jokes like this reinforce to others here that nigeria has a bad reputation, they should remember we are talking about a tiny insignificant part of the population - probably only a handful - (and i think mostly living outside Nigeria?) hardly justifiable to make make generalizations to Nigeria and "the region" as a whole and not as justifiable as suggesting America has a bad reputation for spam and should clean up and move out because 60% to 80% of my email spam comes from there.

For the record, I found it very amusing as a non-Nigerian but this post is against the TOS so i will butt out!

you didn't offend me at all chiyo.

america is a huge exporter of spam I'm sure. The problem is, the nigerian email stuff I've recieved isn't just spam, it's always a SCAM!

but as far as spam, our thirty minute television shows are I believe down to 18 minutes long thanks to the proliferation of advertisements. We are one giant commercial.

Grammatical errors: What's the optimal number?

Love it. Who wrote this, Mark Twain's ghost?

This is satire, not to be taken seriously.
