Developing for the visually impaired

Software, not websites, but same basics....

I'm in the middle of developing a Windows application which will be available for free from our website.

It's a tool to help the visually impaired/blind to use widgets.

I have done some research on the net, but can't find anything that really explains to me in simple terms what a blind person/visually impaired person would like to have in a piece of software. There's lots of papers on the subject, but they're all next to rubbish.

What I really need is a working example piece of software (or website) that is well-regarded in the blind community as being fantastic. Then I can copy some ideals from that.

Can anyone help?

Jaws, Zoomtext and Dragon Naturally speaking are the Common packages used by our staff. The area of accessibilty is especially sensitive and as I work contracted to a government organisation you can imagine by law they have to be as up-to-date as possible. (often This is not exactlty the case)

Having installed a huge new network across the UK many of the Accessibility software solutions were replaced with these software packages which were the baseline products for visually impared/blind users.
