Data centrers require a great deal of energy to run, and that generates a lot of heat. Keeping the data centers cool means that big tech is reviewing the location.

As our world warms up, power outages and water shortages have ravaged many parts of the planet. Data centers may be among the first to feel the resource pinch. They need lots of energy to keep their servers powered, air conditioning and often water to cool the servers, sensors to monitor equipment, fire suppression and backup systems to absorb energy hiccups or software malfunctions -- complex yet resilient data ecosystems.

That takes a lot of energy, leading data centers and data transmission networks to be responsible for around 1% of energy demand worldwide, according to the latest report from the International Energy Agency.

The first 50% of that article is explaining why I should be afraid, then it essentially blames me, before mentioning a few conflicting opinions by people on the climate front. My reaction... Let me know when the supply of fancy imported rubber dog poop runs out, then I'll know were getting serious on climate change.

Until then I don't care to be fear mongered or scapegoated. I'm just paying more for neccessities like heat to stay warm like everyone else while watching big corporations trade carbon tokens(repeatedly mentioned in the article) that reduce polution by 0%, but spread it around so they look more responsible.

We're still at a level of hot potato foo in tackling this problem. Did you notice that the charging stations meant to power EVs are burning diesel to create the electricity? Yeah, but lets ban diesel vehicles, yo. The middle ages weren't bad, right?

Just... double Foo. Instead of watching activists glue their hands to precious artwork to bring attention to this I'd like to see them replace fake poop with real poop in all the novelty gift shops. But that's just me.

Brilliant minds are working on it, it's a shame to see the political disconnect they face (in 1st world countries, too).
