Is this a thing? Content license = site competing against itself?

You may not be aware but your site cannot be shown in China without a license - [en.wikipedia.org...]

A known side effect is websites owned outside of China are often duplicated, translated and shown in China under a different domain by someone with a license.

Those domains are sometimes also available untranslated and shown around the world. Does your site content compete against itself by virtue of being made available in China?

I wasn't aware of this as China is not a market for me. Having said that, the idea of a duplicate site appearing in the region does not surprise me, especially as people copy sites all tge time.

If one version is available only in China, and another is only available outside China, that’s not really competition is it. In linguistics it would be called complementary distribution, as distinct from contrastive distribution.
