Dolphins have a form of echo location. They can ping a sound off an object and create a sort of visual representation of the object. The speed of sound is much faster under water than through the air(water can't compress) and it allows dolphins to "see" what their eyes can't at long range.
Scientists have recently observed dolphins repeating the echo to other dolphins allowing other dolphins to see the image too.
