There's probably not much you can do to a trust fund once it has been set up.

Changing her name makes sense to avoid pesky questions all the time. But changing gender?

I think this is very bold (certainly) and brave (possibly) but I wonder if it's just (a significant moment of) growing up.

It's worth remembering that Xavier, soon to be Vivian, is 18 years old.

I didn't have the best relationship with my M&D at 18.

At 20, I had a much better relationship with them, after only two years living as a university student several hundred miles away, where I'd made new friends, learned new skills, learned to take a lot more personal responsibility for everything, cooked for myself daily, budgeted for myself weekly, arranged work and worked to keep my finances from dropping through the floor, worked abroad, been through the highs and lows of relationships, inter-railed around the European continent twice, backpacked for a month in Asia...

We can forget how young 18 is.

You're ready to spread your wings and the whole world is about to open up.

But until that happens, being 18 can feel a lot like being in a kind of prison.

"When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years."

But changing gender?
Yah, my first reaction was similarly “Hm, seems a bit extreme”, but apparently the events took place in the opposite order: first he becomes she, and then she decides not to have anything more to do with dad.

Funny I have a cousin who followed a similar pattern, but million instead of billionaire father, but changed sexuality rather than gender.

Liberties eh. Good luck to them in their own future.
