The Digital Markets Act (DMA) in Europe has been agreed by E.U.'s lawmakers, and the Act is devised to help level up markets for smaller businesses that are squeezed out by dominant players. Companies such as Apple, Facebook and Google may be forced to change certain aspects of their business operations which locks out competitors.
After the negotiations, the rapporteur from Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee, Andreas Schwab (EPP, DE), said:

"The agreement ushers in a new era of tech regulation worldwide. The Digital Markets Act puts an end to the ever-increasing dominance of Big Tech companies. From now on, they must show that they also allow for fair competition on the internet. The new rules will help enforce that basic principle. Europe is thus ensuring more competition, more innovation and more choice for users.

The idea is good.

I hope the implementation is better than Cookie law, GDPR, VATMOSS etc.

Ideally I should be able to run my own IM server and send messages to Whatsapp users, just as I run my own email server and can send messages to Gmail users. The law falls short of that as small operators need to send requests to gatekeepers.
