I don't know
Experts say the results prove that nuclear fusion is possible, and no longer a pipedream solution for the climate crisis.

Still sounds like a pipedream to me. That looked like a lot of capital invested to generate 5 seconds of power. This is still at least lifetime away.

I've been watching this develop over the years, and it really is a breakthrough.
Sometimes it takes a breakthrough to accellerate development.

I've been watching it develop as well since reading it was "the plan" on the World Economic Forum and in "Agenda 2030" on the U.N. website. Moving everyone to electricity for travel and heating was in the plan since before technology could deliver.

Currently the price of gas and heating oil is rising quickly making it less ideal for heating and new building codes prevent its use entirely in many new constructions. The world will be using MORE electricity with every passing year.

Interesting: Residential homes are to have power cells(large battery banks) installed so that they can absorb power during non-peak times. They will then deliver it during peak times to keep the homeowner out of peak rates, theoreticaly.

Also interesting: A social aspect to such power use is planned. Homes in a more affluent neighborhood may need to feed their stored energy back to the grid in order to help less afluent neighbors. Alternatively those with low incomes may be allowed to draw power and use it for free provided they only use what the batteries store during non-peak periods. A lockout would apply during peak times forcing battery only mode for free users.

Lots is changing in the power industry.

I've been waiting all my life for the arrival of fusion energy.
Sadly, I no longer have all that much life remaining...
