I have 1TB of storage with OneDrive, but it's not practical for me to store a lot of data there directly because of the lag time in upload / download.

Instead, I'm hoping you all can suggest a program that I can run on Windows 11 that would allow me to schedule a time to copy specified folders from my computer to the OneDrive folder.

Ideally, this program would also be able to recognize when a file being copied is identical to what's there, and only copy over new files. I have mobile internet at home, and if I'm copying over 4-5G every night then they're going to throttle me :-O

Freeware is great, of course, but I'm not opposed to buying it if it's worth it. If there's a cost, though, then I would need 2 licenses.

TIA!

AOMEI backupper. Schedules periodic backups, incremental updates, etc. Not free but inexpensive.

I made a discovery that might help others... you can sign up for 10G of free cloud storage with pCloud, and then it has a backup option where you can select the folder to back up. It actually syncs, so if you delete a file on pCloud then it will delete it on your computer! But if you just ignore it and think of it as a backup then it's fine... and free.

It also seems to sync immediately instead of on a schedule. So it's fine for backing up my local script files (HTML, PHP, etc that I write) but not my Outlook .pst files.

[pcloud.com...]

I just now submitted a suggestion to give us the option to schedule it instead of making it real time... who knows, maybe that'll change in the future :-)

I have Dropbox and OneDrive, too, but neither of them would let me select folders to back up outside of Documents, Downloads, and something else... Pictures, maybe? pCloud was the only one I found that would let me select any folder I wanted.

But because of my desire to back up my Outlook files on a schedule, I'm going to try AOMEI backupper and see how that works out.

Why don't you use Github or Gitlab, not only will only save the differences it will also provide you version control.

Good question... I've never used Github or Gitlab, I thought it was for sharing completed scripts?

I'm guessing that the plan would be to manually upload my scripts? If so, I have a server for that so it wouldn't really be necessary; my main use here is to back up scripts for dead accounts or that I have half completed and haven't been uploaded yet.

Can you use FTP for any of these services? Winscp has sync feature in the GUI but you can also script it and execute with Windows task scheduler.

"scripts for dead accounts - half completed etc..."

Seems just dumping thoser to a physical zip drive would be simpler and safer.

Old thingy theory for windows 95(my first laptop had 3.1, now that I am overthinking it) that I still use to this day:

STep 1.

Split THE HD in 2, use chain cutting tool if you have to, tootoo-to.., and then restart with exact first half of HD and make it a 0.05 TB <- this is where OS goes!

Name second bigger half of the first half and name it DATA(me thinks that glowing eye robot in light hacky outfit was named that too, from StarTrek, u know...).

Now locate first second half, locate second half of the first half(DATA) and merge them, use a power tool if you have to, and rename it into BIG-DD-Data.

Install OS on a smaller first half <- 0.05TB one. Any time this one(OS) needs to be reinstalled - many are more than welcome to do so BECAUSE ALL data is on BIG-DD-Data anyway if you put it there.

STep 2.

Spend Money on data recovery software, no more than 50(fitty, no more).

STep 3.

If you are like me - start building/gluing old HDs together using Daisugi technique. If you saved the old ones u could start you own NFT, who knows what is on them, right?

.STep.before STep.1 !important:

Never put yo data in a cloud, cause u cant use step 2 or 3.

Happy Sunday Everyone!
