Since I saw the Beckham thread I thought I'd say something about an over dramtized and publized sporting event centralized in Australia, Thats is made for television that trumps the ratings, Its Rugby League, were Queensland Versuses New South Wales in the best of three. Its hard not to get Caught Up in the hype, first game is tonight.

Oh I love my AFL as well, Doesnt it annoy you that its also Queensland team that dominates the Victorian Game at them moment.

Funny, in the States the kids play a game just like you described. They call it kickball, after the kids reach a certain age they generally forget about kickball and move on to real sports. ;)

Just kidding Woz, but it would be funny to see some skinny 140 lb soccer player tell one of those 265 lb NFL linebackers that he's not a real man.

I'm off to watch some Curling, now there's a sport. ;)

digitalghost: you may be getting Australian Rules Football mixed up with soccer.

AFL is the best game in the world as they can do so many things to the ball - catch it bounce it kick it touch it hand-pass it - and they dont keep on kicking it out of bounds on purpose!

Australian Rules has its origins in gaelic football and is a mix of rugby and soccer, and some would say basketball. In fact some rude people call it aerial ping pong! (though it is as unqiue as gridiron which i beleive is another football game played in north america), so it's players are a mix of skinny fast jumpers and big bargers and can mix it up with players from any other code. (especially as AFL payers are generally more intelligent and can string together a few words into a sentence :))

OK c'mon queensland in the rugby game and st.kilda in the REAL football game. :)
