Every now and then someone offers me employment usually because I got recommended as (cue laugh track) capable, experienced, knowledgeable, in whatever. While I知 absolutely not interested each offer is a glimpse into the morass that is tech employment, particularly in Canada.
As a rule of thumb the same (senior level) position in the US (outside SV) pays twice as much, which when add in difference between US and CDN dollars jumps to ~2.67 times; ~37% of US rate for same job. Yah, no.
This last offer also wanted to play the unicorn card aka even worse take home but stock options! Look rainbow! The company in question is on its second hand痴 worth of funding rounds... yah, worthless.
So, I just told them what I paid myself last year, they turned green, and that was the end of that. Except I treated myself to some just made strawberry shortcake, and smiled. :)
Oh, and it痴 just started snowing. Not that it will stick but the drifting flakes are pretty. I think this deserves a second helping...
