Note that if I click yes, an application called Weather[.EXE] is installed in Windows... This application causes random pop-ups WHENEVER IE is running [and I am connected to the internet]... It does not matter what site I visit.
This program exhibits virus type behavior in that once installed, It runs whenever IE is running... This is important to BP because it is launched from the typical BP ad stream, but after installation, it runs independent of BP, so I would bet anything that BP will not get credit for the click-throughs nor impressions of this app...
The application can only be removed from Windows "Add/Remove Programs" --You won't have to reboot, so If you have been getting pop-ups on sites that typically never showed you them before [especially yours], check to see if this app is installed...
A side to this is that this AD monster will be impervious to all those pop-up busters that everyone is offering, because once running it runs independent of IE and any plug-in that IE would use to scan webpage borne pop-up code....
It's a great idea technically, and a workaround to current pop-up remedies, but I don't want it on my system...
So consider this a heads-up... Your site could be next... cjw
The culprit is TrafficSyndicate (shame on you guys)... To bust-em I have added an entry to the hosts file of all our systems for www.trafficsyndicate.com that resolves to the loopback (127.0.0.1) address... not the best idea, I know, but it will work for now... At least until I hack out more of it's behavior [and aliases, etc.]... Ultimately, the site will go on "the list" of my firewall, along with porn sites and the other "bad boys" on the net. cjw
