I am looking to use it navigate and swith thru programs not dictation, but any first hand experience would be helpful.

I attempted to use it once and had a good laugh with it. I found that it was easier to just type since it took so long to edit all the errors. The one I used was built in to Office XP, so perhaps there were better ones out there. Also, with regular use your results may improve, for my use it was not practical.

Try Dragon Naturally Speaking, you might be pretty happy once you got it all setup.

Dragon Preferred ver 6 actually worked very well for surfing (I was impressed). I haven't tried it for file-handling, though.

For a while in college I was completely unable to use either of my hands. Voice recognition is a poor, poor substitute for typing! (and VR software should *not* make it to market with a bug that tends to crash the program when you say "save"!)
